Warning. Spoilers below. Season 3 Review of Good Girls
Comedy drama series Good Girls re-entered our lives after a chaotic and messy end to season 2. We were chomping at the bit for 3. I was hoping that we could get into the real meat of the story at this point. We’ve had our hor d’oeuvres so stop playing in our mouths and give us the main meal.
I’m going to give us a recap of the season, because pretty much a whole load of nothing happened. We continued the cycle of the scooby gang girls underestimating Rio, having the police breathe down their neck and then being spanked on the booty in warning and then round again. Sick of it. At this point we need some development
It gets to the point when you are struggling to root for anyone. The show only ever gets ‘seasoning’ when Rio is there to bring in some flavour. There’s a certain relief we feel in the return of Rio as he is the strength and the seasoning to the burgeoning blandness of the main cast. They don’t seem to utilise him at all- aside from the fact that you want some consensual choking to take place with him. The sexual tension we ‘feel’ between Rio and Beth is carried primarily by Rio.
Beth’s energy is giving me potato salad with raisins in this season and Im going to need Rio to sprinkle some seasoning in it.. immediately.
Annie brings us humour but it’s painful that in 3 seasons that there has been zero growth in her character. There is almost some kind of change in her with discovering that she wanted to be an EMT. That seemed to fade to nowhere pretty quickly after a failure of an exam.
The only potential saving grace was the blessing that was Lucy (played by Charlene Yi). There was so much potential with her character; the dynamics of her innocence and quirkiness alongside Rio could have bought the depth and growth that we needed BUT she gets killed pretty early quickly.
Unfortunately, there’s not enough time to fix before we are thrust into an abrupt covid caused end. The series should have been 16 episodes but ends at 11, leaving us with what feels like filler episodes. Enjoyable, bingeable but still leaving us wanting for more. Season 3 will not be coming back with the remaining 5 episodes but instead a Season 4 in 2021.
I still feel like we should stick with it and it is a fun watch but I need something other than my drugneapenaur to be the plot!
